Michele Nix
Chief Financial Officer
Michele Nix was appointed chief financial officer in June 2024, after serving as interim chief financial officer since August 2022. She’s responsible for managing all of CalPERS’ financial processes, including budgeting, accounting, cash management, financial planning, and analysis, prefunding programs, 115 Trusts, and pension contracting.
Michele joined CalPERS as the Controller in 2018. She has over 30 years of experience in serving the public and leading organizations in the areas of pension plan administration, financial analysis, investments, accounting, process improvement, financial reporting, treasury management, budgeting, procurement, risk management, auditing, and other related financial areas.
Prior to joining CalPERS, Michele served as the director of finance for the City of Columbia, Missouri where she also served as the executive director of the Columbia Police Pension Fund and Columbia Fire Pension Fund. She also served the members of the Missouri State Employee’s Retirement (MOSERS) as chief financial officer. Additionally, she has experience in auditing for a CPA firm and working with financial banking institutions of various sizes.
Michele has served on the Board of Public Pension Financial Forum (P2F2) as a board member for over 19 years including two terms as president. Michele is a CPA and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, and an MBA from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri.
