Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for myCalPERS
February 10, 2025
Circular Letter: 200-011-25
Topic: Announcements
To: All CalPERS Employers
Purpose
The purpose of this Circular Letter is to inform you of the upcoming implementation of multifactor authentication (MFA) for employers in myCalPERS and provide you with the opportunity to share your thoughts on this transition through our survey. This survey is a follow up to the initial discussion we began at the October 2024 CalPERS Employer Educational Forum.
Background
We are committed to ensuring the security of your organization’s sensitive information and the integrity of the myCalPERS portal. As part of this commitment, we are excited to announce the planned implementation of MFA in 2025.
MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring users to verify their identity through two or more factors, such as a password and a code sent to their phone. This enhancement will:
- Improve data security by reducing the risk of unauthorized access
- Protect sensitive information for both employers and employees
- Support compliance with industry-standard best practices for cybersecurity
To ensure a smooth and effective rollout, we want to hear from you. Your input will help us design a transition plan that meets your needs and minimizes disruption.
Completing our short survey by February 21, 2025, will assist us with gathering feedback on:
- Your organization’s familiarity with MFA systems
- Potential support or training needed
- Preferences for communication and rollout timing
We are dedicated to collaborating with you to ensure this upgrade enhances security without impacting your operations.
